Land Use Plan for Fushidhiggaru Lagoon Completed, Says Housing Minister

The Minister of Housing, Land, and Urban Development, Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed, announced today that the land use plan for the reclamation and development of Fushidhiggaru Lagoon has been completed.
Responding to inquiries from members of the National Development and Heritage Committee of Parliament, Minister Haidar disclosed that the ambitious project aims to address housing shortages by providing accommodations for 75,000 families.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to resolving urban housing challenges, Minister Haidar emphasised the significance of the project as a 20-year initiative following the nation’s attainment of independence and sovereignty.
Minister Haidar outlined the project’s future impact on the Male’ area, stating that the growing population will benefit from the additional land provided by the Fushidhiggaru Lagoon in the years to come.
Regarding the logistical aspects of the project, Minister Haidar outlined plans for dredging the lagoon and securing funds. He expressed openness to obtaining financial support from foreign sources to facilitate the ambitious undertaking.
