President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced that the relocation of fiber work from Vilimalé to Thilafushi, is expected to be finalised within six months.
The current fiber work operations are situated in the eastern part of Vilimale’, a move that had prompted concerns and protests from Vilimale’ residents when the Thilamale’ bridge construction necessitated the shift.
During his tenure as the Mayor of Malé City, Muizzu had advocated for the transfer of fiber work to Thilamale’ to address the residents’ concerns. However, the previous administration failed to provide a resolution to the matter.
While visiting Vilimale’ alongside Azima Shakoor, a candidate for the position of Male’ City Mayor under the joint ticket of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People’s National Congress (PNC), Muizzu reassured residents that the administration is actively working towards addressing the requests made by the Vilimalé community.
Muizzu recounted his efforts to secure land from Thilafushi for relocating fiber work from Vilimale’, stating that a suitable plot has been allocated, and preparatory work is already underway. He affirmed that the transition is expected to be completed within six months, providing ample space for other needs as well.
The relocation is anticipated to resolve complaints from locals about health issues arising from fiber work being conducted in close proximity to residential areas.
Muizzu also disclosed that a sea ambulance service has been initiated in Vilimale’, with plans for the construction of a 100-bed tertiary hospital in progress. Additionally, a road construction project is being considered for Vilimale’, with efforts to explore implementation methods that minimize the impact on the existing trees lining the roads.
