NDMA Allocates Compensation for Rain-Damaged Houses

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a statement revealing allocation of MVR 473,349 in compensation to 90 houses impacted by the December rains.
The damages were reported across nine islands, namely Baa Goidhoo, L. Gan, L. Maamendhoo, Lh Hinnavaru, S. Maradhoo, S. Feydhoo, Fuvahmulah, K. Guraidhoo, and K. Hinmafushi. Following an assessment, it was determined that 103 houses were damaged, with 90 households eligible for assistance.
Occupied residences bore the brunt of the damage, with 21 houses experiencing various degrees of structural harm. The NDMA is set to distribute a total of MVR 474,349 to the affected households.
Notably, the NDMA highlighted that the estimated cost of damages to houses within Male’ city exceeded one million MVR. As part of its humanitarian assistance programme, the authority has decided to allocate MVR 711,541 to assist the affected households.
The majority of this amount, MVR 611,4, is designated for structural repairs.
