Dharumavantha Hospital Designated as Main Gov’t Hospital

The Dharumavantha Hospital is set to assume the role of the primary government hospital, replacing the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) from its position.

Ibrahim Haleem, CEO of Dharumavantha Hospital, shared with Mihaaru media that the hospital was established under the initiative of the Maldives government, serving as a symbol of the nation’s identity.

IGMH, constructed with the assistance of the Government of India around 30 years ago, has faced challenges due to limited space and constant maintenance requirements. A new hospital was commissioned during the tenure of former President Abdullah Yameen, funded by the Maldivian government.

CEO Haleem revealed future plans for additional hospitals in the Male’ area, asserting a comprehensive approach to healthcare infrastructure.

The 25-storey Dharumavantha Hospital, established during the Former Abdulla Yameen administration, will now function as the main government hospital. The aging IGMH, constructed by the Indian government, will undergo a transformation.

The government intends to erect a new tower adjacent to Dharumavantha, relocating certain departments from IGMH. Subsequently, IGMH will undergo renovations, as outlined by Haleem.
