NDMA Responds to Floods Across Maldives After Saturday’s Heavy Rains

Heavy rains on Saturday led to flooding in Shaviyani and Thaa Atolls, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

The NDMA reported that the heavy downpours caused damage to ten houses in Feevah and three houses in Foakaidhoo within Shaviyani Atoll. Additionally, flooding affected the islands of Vandhoo and Hirilandhoo in Thaa Atoll, with one house in Th. Vandhoo sustaining damage.

In the capital city of Male’, NDMA received a total of 132 reports of flooding. Responding promptly, the authority attended to 122 locations and deployed 732 sandbags across 104 sites to mitigate the impact.

Furthermore, NDMA conducted rapid assessments of ten houses with the assistance of the Maldivian Red Crescent. As a result, temporary housing arrangements were made for 42 individuals from six affected houses.
