The deadline for transferring 1,327 plots of land, initially allocated under the previous government’s housing scheme, has been extended. This decision follows the revelation that the Giraavaru lagoon did not allocate sufficient land for essential services, prompting the need for transfers to Gulhifalhu.
The Housing Ministry announced the extension, pushing the deadline for submission of applications for the conversion of these plots of land to Thursday. Specifically, the deadline for the transfer of land allocated from Giraavaru lagoon to Gulhifalhu has been extended until 11:00 pm on Thursday.
The Ministry further clarified that if demand exceeds the available slots in the forest area, the allocation will be determined through a lottery system. However, the date for this lottery has not been announced yet.
Breakdown of the plots slated for transfer from Giraavaru Lagoon to Gulhifalhu includes:
- 193 lots covering 1,250 acres.
- 663 lots covering 1,650 acres.
- 487 lots covering 2,050 acres.
- 4 lots covering 2,450 acres.
Those interested in the transfer are urged to utilise the ministry’s online portal for application submissions. Additionally, landowners are advised to complete and submit the required affidavit when applying for land transfer through the portal.
Over 1,000 plots of land from Giraavaru lagoon are set for transfer to Gulhifalhu due to modifications in the land use plan. In a letter distributed through the portal, Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr. Ali Haider Ahmed has assured recipients that all entitled individuals will receive their allocated land.
The extension of the deadline aims to accommodate all applicants and streamline the transfer process amidst changes in land allocation strategies.
