The Road Development Corporation (RDC) has officially initiated practical work on the development of roads in Kendhikulhudhoo, Noonu Atoll.
The project, aimed at modernizing the island’s road infrastructure, was inaugurated by Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed and RDC’s Managing Director, Brigadier General (Retired) Ali Zuhair. The commencement ceremony, attended by members of the Kendhikulhodhoo Council and island residents, marked the beginning of this significant endeavour.
Plans are underway to enhance eight roads on the island to meet modern standards. This includes the installation of drainage systems along 3.7 kilometres of roads, alongside the establishment of utility junctions. Moreover, the roads will undergo tarring and development with pavements, traffic signs, street lights, and speed bumps. The government allocated USD 5.89 million to RDC for this project in June 2023.
In parallel, RDC is gearing up for the initiation of a road development project in Alifushi, Raa Atoll. With an equivalent budget allocation of USD 5.87 million, the project aims to improve seven roads on the island. RDC has indicated that this project will follow a similar approach to the Kendhikulhudhoo road development project.
Additionally, RDC has announced ongoing efforts to prepare sites for road development projects in Manadhoo, Noonu Atoll, and Thoddoo, Alif Alif Atoll. These efforts signify the corporation’s commitment to improving road infrastructure across various islands in the Maldives.
