Ministry of Health Investigates Oxygen Incident in Patient’s Death

The Ministry of Health has initiated an investigation following allegations that medical personnel failed to administer oxygen to an elderly patient, resulting in her death. The deceased, a 74-year-old resident of Th. Kinbidhoo, passed away on Saturday evening.
A spokesperson from the Ministry of Health said on Sunday that an inquiry into the matter is underway. The patient’s son informed Sun that his mother was initially admitted to Veymandoo Hospital due to respiratory distress and worsening health conditions.
Subsequently, the hospital advised transferring her to Male’ City for further treatment. She was transported to Thimarafushi via sea ambulance for an onward flight to Male’. However, the issue with oxygen supply arose in Thimarafushi as she was being taken to the airport.
The patient’s son said the oxygen cylinder provided at Veymandoo Hospital may have depleted during the journey. The Ministry of Health stated that further details regarding the incident will be disclosed as the inquiry progresses.
