The Addu City Council has announced the implementation of entrance fees for visitors to the Mathikilhi Eco Garden, setting rates at MVR 10 for locals and MVR 50 for tourists.

In a statement published in the gazette yesterday, the council explained that the entrance fee is part of regulations formulated to safeguard the Eco Garden, a project initiated by the Meedhoo Community. Additionally, the announcement outlined procedures for leasing sections of the Eco Garden to interested parties.

Visitors will be required to purchase a ticket for entry, allowing them 45 minutes to explore the premises. Ticket prices have been set at MVR 10 for Maldivians, MVR 15 for work permit holders, and MVR 50 for tourists.

Furthermore, the Eco Garden will be available for private functions and events, with a maximum leasing period of three hours, priced at MVR 800. An additional fee of MVR 100 per hour will apply for extensions beyond the initial three hours, with late charges incurred even if the lessee exceeds the limit by only one hour.

Revenue generated from the Eco Garden will be directed to the Addu Conservation Trust Fund, as confirmed by the city council.

The jurisdiction over the Mathikilhi area in Addu City was transferred to the Addu City Council by the previous administration. Notably, the Mathikilhi Eco Garden marks the first of its kind in the Maldives.
