Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has announced a significant reduction in pick-up charges for waste transfer services within the Greater Male’ Area, with the pick-up charge decreasing to MVR 500 and the gate fee being completely waived, effective immediately.

WAMCO’s decision to lower the transfer charges and eliminate the gate fee comes amidst efforts to streamline waste management processes and enhance accessibility to waste transfer facilities.

Furthermore, WAMCO has opted to discontinue the practice of charging waste by weight until weigh-bridges are installed at all transfer stations. This decision, effective from May 14th, aims to simplify the waste transfer process for users.

The announcement from WAMCO coincides with a growing concern over public littering in the Greater Male’ Area in recent months. To address this issue, the Male’ City Council initiated a fining campaign targeting individuals found littering in public spaces.

According to reports from the council, over 180 individuals have been fined thus far, with approximately 80 percent of offenders being expatriates.

In addition to these measures, WAMCO has launched a campaign to clean up roads and streets in the Male’ Area, commencing on May 2nd. This initiative underscores WAMCO’s commitment to expanding its services and maintaining cleanliness within the community.
