The Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage revealed that it has received proposals from 26 islands to host this year’s Eid-Al-Adha celebrations.

The ministry will select three islands based on the number and variety of celebratory activities, the expenditure involved, and the provision of free-of-charge services for the festivities.

The proposals were submitted by seven islands from the northern region, ten from the central region, and nine from the southern region. Proposals submitted past the deadline were deemed inadmissible by the ministry.

A special committee has been appointed to evaluate the proposals and select the finalists. The committee has already begun its work, and the selected islands are expected to be announced in the coming week.

The submission window for proposals opened on 25th April 2024.

Eid-Al-Adha, which follows the Hajj pilgrimage, will coincide with 17th June 2024 this year.
