According to the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), the temporary relocation is part of broader plans to further develop the area. Although the huts were initially set up for various commercial purposes, the HDC highlighted that Hulhumale’ 2 is still under development and lacks essential facilities, causing inconvenience.

The HDC is committed to the development of Hulhumale’ 2 and aims to establish the necessary facilities. Once development is complete, the area will be reopened to businesses under specified regulations.

The corporation emphasised its dedication to optimising resources in Hulhumale’ to benefit residents and noted the cooperation of the local community in these efforts.

Previously, some residents of the Hiyaa flats had set up huts to sell short eats near their residential towers. Following the removal of these huts to facilitate further development, the residents had relocated their businesses to the beachside.

The HDC’s announcement marks a significant step towards structured development in the Hulhumale’ 2 area, aiming to balance commercial activity with infrastructural progress.
