This statement aligns with the growing number of Chinese visitors to the Maldives.

At a press conference held at the Chinese Embassy, Ambassador Lixin emphasised that China is already a major contributor to tourist arrivals in the Maldives. She highlighted that the number of Chinese tourists is expected to rise significantly during the upcoming Chinese holiday season. Ambassador Lixin noted that approximately 87,466 Chinese tourists had visited the Maldives by May 5, representing 11% of the total market share.

Ambassador Lixin further explained that the expected increase in July and August is due to the school holidays for many Chinese students, leading to a surge in outbound travel. Consequently, a substantial influx of Chinese tourists to the Maldives is anticipated during this period.

Additionally, Ambassador Lixin mentioned that the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) will have the opportunity to promote Maldivian tourism at ITB China in May. She described the event as a valuable platform for the MMPRC to enhance its presence in the Chinese market ahead of the holiday season.

Recent statistics from the Ministry of Tourism indicate that China has contributed the highest number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives this year. By May 14, over 92,000 Chinese tourists had visited the Maldives, accounting for 11.1% of the total tourist arrivals so far.
