Maldives Zakat House Disburses MVR 1.6 Million for Medical Expenses in May

The Maldives Zakat House has revealed that MVR 1.6 million from the Zakat Fund was disbursed in May to cover the medical expenses of 180 individuals.

Statistics released by the Zakat House for May reveal that a total of MVR 1,632,265 was utilised to fund the medical expenses of these individuals. The financial assistance provided was distributed as follows:

• Cancer treatment: MVR 453,574.50
• Kidney disease treatment: MVR 72,088.50
• Cardiovascular surgery: MVR 67,848
• Brain surgery: MVR 72,088.50
• Treatment for other diseases: MVR 619,113

The highest amount of financial assistance, 47.5 percent of the total disbursed, was allocated for the treatment of various other diseases. This was followed by cancer treatment at 34.9 percent. Kidney disease and brain surgery treatments each received 6.8 percent and 5.5 percent, respectively, while the least funds were disbursed for cardiovascular surgery at 5.2 percent.

The disbursement exceeded the initial allocation of MVR 1.2 million from the Zakat Fund for medical expenses in May.
