Maldives Prepares to Illuminate Nationwide for Eid al-Adha Celebrations
Preparations are underway across the nation as Maldives gears up to illuminate for Eid al-Adha celebrations.
The initiative, known as ‘Eid Ali’, is set to adorn various locations with vibrant lighting installations.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu initiated this tradition in line with practices observed in Islamic nations. Cities and provinces nationwide are slated to participate in the lighting campaign, with final arrangements currently in progress on several islands.
The Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage has identified Raa Ungoofaaru, Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo, and Gaafu Alifu Vilingili as focal points for national-level celebrations this year.
“Eid Ali” gained immense popularity during Eid al-Fitr, inaugurated by the Muizzu in a ceremony at Jumhooree Maidhaan, drawing significant interest from children and the public alike.
The entire country is set to be illuminated on the night of Eid, with lights remaining lit throughout the festival period. Plans are underway to extend this initiative to all islands of Maldives in the coming years.
