Maldives Welcomes One-Millionth Tourist of 2024
The Maldives welcomed its one millionth tourist for 2024, Thai national Sutapa Amonwivat, who arrived from Singapore with her husband and two children on their second visit.
The family was greeted warmly at Velana International Airport (VIA) this afternoon. The reception was led by Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal and included Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) Managing Director Ibrahim Shiury, along with senior officials.
In a ceremony held at the airport, the guests were welcomed with traditional offerings and presented with a range of gifts from the Ministry of Tourism, MMPRC, Customs, Immigration, Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO), and Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA).
The Maldives reached this milestone in June, three weeks ahead of the same achievement in 2023, when the one millionth tourist arrived on July 16. The country has a target of reaching a total of two million tourists by the end of the year.
