Gov’t Allocates 57 More Land Plots in Hulhumalé Phase 2
The government has distributed 57 additional land plots from Hulhumalé Phase 2 to residents of Malé City as part of the Binveriyaa Scheme.
This brings the total number of plots handed out under the scheme to 538.
On Wednesday, the Housing Ministry announced that 45 plots, which had not been previously allocated, were distributed to their new owners. This follows the issuance of 12 other plots earlier in the week, bringing the weekly total to 57 plots.
The Binveriyaa Scheme, initiated during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration, aims to allocate a total of 1,000 plots from Hulhumalé Phase 2. The overall plan includes distributing 9,000 plots to Malé residents, with additional allocations from Gulhifalhu and Giraavarufalhu.
Furthermore, plots are slated to be issued from Hulhumalé Phase 3, which is currently under reclamation. The process had experienced a brief pause following a directive from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) due to concerns over coral bleaching.
A recent budget review by the Auditor General’s Office (AGO) revealed that the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) is projected to incur a loss of MVR 10.5 billion as a result of issuing free land under the Binveriyaa Scheme.
