Fuvahmulah City Council has launched an online citizen’s portal, AfunCity, for residents of the southern island to submit concerns about various municipal services.

The AfunCity (My City) portal allows citizens to lodge complaints related to a range of municipal issues, including:

  • Garbage collection
  • Property damage
  • Housing units
  • Mosques and parks
  • Streets and street lights
  • Parking and traffic regulations
  • Building and land use
  • Animals, birds, and plants

“The AfunCity portal that we launched yesterday is an important step to become a smart city and digitize our services so that it is easily accessible for our citizens,” Ibrahim Aleef, the council’s media officer told MV+.

He added that once a complaint is lodged through the portal, a ticket will be created and alerted to the relevant sections, allowing the council to assign tasks to schedule and resolve complaints efficiently.

Users can also check the status of their complaints through the portal using the ticket.

The council, which serves a population of 13,999, has prioritised the digitisation of its services to enhance citizen engagement.

Last month, the council released another portal, AfunAdo (My Voice), which enables residents to participate in online discussions, debates, and polls. AfunAdo also allows the council to open for feedback on proposals and legislation.

Both portals can be accessed by signing up using the central government’s efaas account or even without logging in.
