MWSC Resumes Male’-Hulhumale’ Water Interconnection Project
The Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has recommenced work on the Male’-Hulhumale’ water interconnection network following a prolonged hiatus in the project’s progress.
MWSC Managing Director Abdul Matheen Mohamed announced the resumption of practical works on the Male’ transfer pumpstations during an inauguration ceremony this morning. According to Matheen, the project, initiated in 2016, had experienced a standstill since 2018.
Matheen highlighted that although pipelines for the transfer pump station were installed during the construction of the Sinamale’ Bridge, they were never connected. Emphasising the project’s significance, he outlined its pivotal role in enhancing water supply capabilities for both Male’ and Hulhumale’.
Upon completion, Matheen stated that MWSC anticipates supplying up to 800 tons of water per hour to the two populous islands, thereby bolstering the reliability and safety of the water distribution system. He affirmed that the construction of the transfer pump stations is slated for completion within the current year.
