Maldives Immigration Launches ‘Immigration Watch’ Platform
Maldives Immigration has unveiled ‘Immigration Watch’, an online platform designed to facilitate the reporting of immigration or border-related offences.
The platform was officially launched by the Controller General of Immigration, Mohamed Shamman Waheed, at a press conference held on Wednesday. During the unveiling, Shamman highlighted that the initiative aims to enhance public cooperation in efforts to curtail the population of illegal immigrants in the Maldives.
Shamman stated that the platform would strengthen the reporting mechanism, allowing the public to report offences related to immigrants living illegally in the Maldives or cases of illegal entry into the country. Reports can be filed anonymously, providing a layer of protection for those submitting information.
The platform operates 24/7 and allows complainants to submit pictures and other material as evidence of potential immigration offences. To file reports, users can select ‘Immigration Watch’ after accessing the authority’s website at imuga.immigration.gov.mv.
The Maldives government aims to address illegal immigration within three years. Currently, Immigration is conducting raids to identify illegal immigrants and expatriates running businesses illegally.
