In addition to the President’s Special Scholarships, the High Achievers Scholarships were granted to 117 students who achieved A grades or higher in five subjects in last year’s A’Level examinations. In total, 1,407 students from 45 schools took their higher secondary exams last year, with 136 students achieving high grades in five subjects. Among these, 19 students scored A* in five subjects and qualified for the President’s Scholarship, while 117 students scored A in five subjects and received the High Achievers Scholarship.
Notably, Muizzu’s daughter, Yasmin Mohamed Muizzu, who studied at CHSE, was among the recipients of the High Achievers Scholarship, having achieved A grades in five subjects. The High Achievers Scholarships were presented by the Minister of Higher Education, Labour, and Skills Development, Dr Maryam Mariya, during the ceremony at Huravee School.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Mariya urged the scholarship recipients to make the most of their opportunity to pursue higher education and to serve the nation upon completion of their studies.
The Minister also emphasised President Dr Muizzu’s commitment to providing higher education opportunities for Maldivians, asserting that the positive impact of this support would be evident in the near future.
Muizzu announced that MVR 200 million would be allocated from the state budget to provide high salaries for educated individuals, ensuring that government jobs would offer better pay than the private sector.
Furthermore, Muizzu addressed the housing issue in the country, noting that the lack of accommodation is a significant reason students do not return. He pledged to resolve the housing crisis to allow graduates to start their lives and live with their families. He also highlighted the government’s plan to reserve many fields exclusively for local professionals in the future.
Concluding his speech, President Dr Muizzu called on all Maldivians working abroad to consider returning to serve the nation, promising better opportunities and living conditions.
