Maldives Immigration has detained 22 expatriates found working illegally in Hulhumale’.
The operation followed concerns raised on social media about activities in a three-storey building in the area.
A search was conducted at the premises on Saturday night, revealing that the expatriates were preparing and selling food without proper authorisation.
This detention is part of a broader initiative by Maldives Immigration to identify and apprehend expatriates living and working illegally in the country. In a similar operation on Thursday, 16 individuals were detained across four different locations.
To date, approximately 130 expatriates have been detained under this initiative. Maldives Immigration has announced that all detained individuals will be deported and will remain in custody until their deportation.
