Majlis Seeks Public Feedback on Three Bills

The People’s Majlis is seeking public feedback for three bills under review by the decentralisation committee and judiciary committee.
The parliament made announcements today asking members of the public to contribute their views to proposed announcements to the Decentralisation Act, Local Council Elections Act and the Legal Professions Act.
The amendment to the Legal Professions aim to remove the Attorney General from the Bar Council’s executive committee and replacing the Attorney General with a member elected by lawyers. It will also allow government institutions to attest certificates and documents.
Comments to the proposed changes to the Legal Professions Act can be submitted by emailing feedback to the judiciary committee at judiciary_committee@gmail.gov.mv before 12pm on 6th August 2024.
The amendment to the Decentralisation Act and the Local Council Elections Act aims to limit the number of council by-elections to a maximum of two every year.
