MV+ News Desk | August 13, 2024

The Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development has announced that land plots awarded under the ‘Binveriya’ scheme to applicants who are now deceased will be transferred to their heirs upon submission of court documents proving inheritance.

The Ministry made the announcement in a statement today. According to the Ministry, heirs must first obtain court confirmation of their inheritance. Following this, they should submit the court documents via the Hiyaavehi portal and request an appointment to sign a new agreement.

In the first phase of the ‘Binveriya’ housing scheme, 9,003 land plots were allocated from areas reclaimed or being reclaimed from Hulhumale’, Gulhifalhu, and Giraavarufalhi.

Under the previous administration, 1,408 plots were designated from Hulhumale’, but only 624 plots have been handed over to date. This includes 465 plots transferred last year and an additional 159 plots this year.

The government has faced increasing pressure regarding delays in the handover of land under the ‘Binveriya’ scheme and flats under the ‘Gedhoruveriya’ scheme, both of which were initiated by the previous administration.
