Maldives and UK Sign MoU to Boost Master’s Scholarship Opportunities

The Maldives and the United Kingdom have formalised a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance opportunities for Maldivian students pursuing Master’s degrees in the UK. 

The MoU was signed during a ceremony at the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development. British High Commissioner to the Maldives, Caron Röhsler, presented the scholarship in collaboration with the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the British High Commission in Malé.

Dr. Mariyam Marya, Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to broadening youth awareness, fostering critical thinking, and shaping a robust future for the nation. She emphasised that Maldivian students who study abroad and return are well-equipped to address and overcome modern challenges with the skills needed for the 21st century.

High Commissioner Caron Röhsler expressed her pleasure at expanding scholarship opportunities for Maldivian students. She highlighted that the scholarships are targeted at fields crucial for the Maldives’ development, offering students valuable exposure to diverse cultures and practical experience.

The MoU signifies a strengthened partnership between the Maldives and the UK, reflecting a shared dedication to international cooperation in advancing higher education. The scholarship programme will enable four Maldivian students to pursue their studies in the UK, with all expenses covered by the UK government. The ministry extended its gratitude to the UK for enhancing bilateral relations and supporting Maldivian students and institutions.
