Minister Highlights Issues in Unsanitary Food Preparation Locations Amid Immigration Raids
Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan, has reported a significant number of unsanitary food preparation sites uncovered during the immigration-led raids targeting undocumented expatriates.
The Minister pledged that authorities are committed to addressing this issue. The ongoing operations, which aim to address the presence of undocumented and illegal expatriate workers, have also revealed concerns about food safety. Many of these locations, involved in processing commonly sold items such as local snacks and betel nuts, have been found to operate under highly unsanitary conditions.
One recent raid resulted in the detention of an expatriate, who is accused of using meat from stray cats to prepare burgers and other food items. These products are often sold in corner shops and consumed as snacks by students and office workers.
Minister Ihusaan disclosed that the raids have exposed an unusually high number of food preparation businesses operated by expatriates in unsanitary conditions. He assured that efforts to identify and address these establishments will continue.
In addition to addressing unsanitary food practices, efforts are being made to legalise undocumented workers and, where necessary, to deport individuals who do not comply with regulations.
