13 Divers Rescued at Sea off Gdh. Atoll

In a dramatic rescue operation today, Maldives Marine Police rescued divers in distress off the coast of Gdh. Atoll. The incident unfolded when a Marine Police launch enroute from Fuvahmulah island to GDh Atoll discovered a diver adrift at sea; two additional divers were located as the launch proceeded to the area.
As authorities approached the scene, more divers were spotted struggling in the water. Further inquiries revealed that additional divers had been swept away by strong currents.
Prompt action by the police led to the successful rescue of 10 Russian divers and three Maldivian instructors.

Following the rescue operation, all 13 individuals were safely transported to GDh Atoll, where they received medical attention. Authorities report that all rescued individuals were in good condition despite their ordeal.
Additionally, the safari vessel associated with the diving expedition was recovered and subsequently turned over to the owner.
While the precise circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation, authorities have emphasised the importance of adherence to safety protocols, particularly in maritime recreational activities.
