Aasandha said they will provide its services in selected hospitals in Thailand and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) starting from today.

In a press release, the organisation in charge of providing universal healthcare for Maldivian citizens said its services will be provided in accordance with the regulations for procedures already followed by hospitals abroad.

In terms of who will receive priority healthcare from Thailand and UAE, Aasandha said they will prioritise patients who require kidney transplants and lack a “first-degree donor,” that is, a person from their family who can donate a kidney. This priority is given to such patients because hospitals abroad that provide kidney transplants under Aasandha only offer them to those with a first-degree donor. Therefore, people without a family member available to donate their kidney can also receive necessary healthcare services.

The company said it will next prioritise patients who have previously received treatment through Sri Lankan or Indian hospitals without seeing an improvement in their health.

“With the reference of a relevant team of doctors, this organisation will determine which healthcare centre to refer the patient to receive the necessary healthcare,” Aasandha said in their press release in Dhivehi.

Aasandha company said that although its services are initially offered to these two categories of patients, it will expand its services to other patients in the upcoming days.

Under the Aasandha scheme, applications for treatment from abroad can be made according to the existing service requirements. Candidates can apply online through the Aasandha Mobile App and My Aasandha portal. They can also apply at the counters set up in hospitals and the Aasandha Front Office counters.
