The Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources has formally signed an agreement with Maldives National University (MNU) to establish a fisheries education and training college.

The signing ceremony took place today, solidifying the commitment to advancing expertise in the country’s vital fisheries sector.

Minister Ahmed Shiyam, representing the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources, and Vice Chancellor Shehnaz Adam, representing the National University, were the signatories of the agreement.

In his address during the ceremony, Minister Ahmed Shiyam underscored the significance placed by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on the development of the fisheries industry.

Minister Shiyam emphasised the pivotal role played by the fisheries industry in the Maldivian economy. He highlighted the provisions within the Fisheries Act for training aimed at fostering fisheries development, a priority consistently upheld by the current government since assuming office.

The newly established college, in collaboration with Maldives National University, will not only provide opportunities for pursuing PhD studies but also serve as a platform for international individuals seeking training in ice fisheries, as stated by the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources.
