The Maldives Blood Services (MBS) appointed Ahmed Mausoom as its new Director General yesterday.
According to the Ministry, Mausoom previously worked in the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and has experience working in management.
The Ministry of Health announced yesterday they will soon appoint a new Deputy Director General and a Director for MBS. They were additionally looking for a physician to work in the organisation, as well as working towards filling the hiring of five nurses and other additional staff.

This appointment came soon after the family of thalassaemia patients protested near MBS on Saturday night, calling for the management of the Thalassaemia Centre to resign. Their frustrations were regarding the use of faulty equipment for blood transfers which were leading to blood wastage. They had previously shared their concerns with the management, which led to no conclusive solutions.
On Sunday, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu visited the Thalassaemia Center to observe their operations. Yesterday, he announced that the Thalassaemia Center will now be directly under the president and he would be making changes to the management to improve its services.
