According to Minister Khaleel, significant progress has been made in the implementation of the air ambulance service, with a particular focus on the installation of essential equipment. He disclosed that two aircraft will be deployed for this purpose, comprising a conventional aircraft and a seaplane. The inclusion of a seaplane is aimed at addressing emergency situations in remote islands without airports or located at a considerable distance from an airport.

The minister noted that a Dash8 aircraft is currently being configured to accommodate two patients, despite having the capacity for additional passengers. The air ambulance will be fully equipped with life-saving facilities such as oxygen, ventilators, and emergency medications. Additionally, necessary equipment including stretchers will be installed to ensure optimal patient care. Minister Khaleel emphasised that the aircraft can accommodate up to 38 individuals.

In terms of operational reach, Minister Khaleel mentioned that the air ambulance service has secured clearance for flights to Sri Lanka, with efforts underway to obtain approvals for flights to other countries. To support the service, fifteen personnel, comprising five nurses, five doctors, and five technicians, have been recruited and are undergoing training in collaboration with the Maldives National University (MNU).

Acknowledging the support from various stakeholders, including Island Aviation Services Limited, Ooredoo, and Manta Air, the health ministry expressed gratitude.
