A 45-year-old employee at Velana International Airport tragically passed away today following an accident involving a luggage vehicle on the Airport apron.
The driver, identified as Aslam Adam, was initially transported to a nearby clinic before being transferred to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) around 9:28 a.m.
According to police, Aslam was pronounced dead upon arrival at the clinic. Medical examinations at IGMH later confirmed that he showed no visible signs of injury. Authorities believe that Aslam may have suffered a medical episode which caused the vehicle to collide with a structure at the airport.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) expressed its deep sorrow over the incident, saying it was “greatly saddened” by Aslam’s passing. The company extended condolences to his family and wished them strength during this difficult time.
