Annual Bar Exam Sees 183 Candidates Pursuing Legal Practice in Maldives

The annual bar examination, a critical step for aspiring lawyers in the Maldives, took place yesterday, with 183 candidates participating.

Conducted by the Bar Council of the Maldives, this exam is one of the three primary requirements mandated by the 2019 Legal Act for obtaining the right to practice law in the country. The Bar Council first held the examination in 2022, and it has since become an annual event.

This year’s examination, held at Villa College, brought the total number of candidates sitting the exam over the past three years to 505. While 190 candidates registered for the exam, 183 attended on the day.

In a statement, the Bar Council noted it provided enhanced resources to this year’s candidates, including recorded lectures and updated materials covering recent changes to the examination content.

Candidates answered 120 multiple-choice questions in either Dhivehi or English, covering both theoretical and practical aspects of the law.
