Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC) launched the HOPE Campaign website yesterday, a new initiative to address child abuse in the Maldives. The launch event coincided with World Day for the Prevention of Child Abuse.
According to ARC, the website serves as a platform to raise awareness about child abuse, encourage the reporting of abuse, and offer support for survivors. It provides accessible resources, including educational materials and guidance on recognising signs of abuse, as well as tools for community members to take action.
During the event, ARC’s Managing Director, Muruthala Moosa, highlighted the importance of collective efforts in tackling child abuse. She emphasised that every child has the right to grow up in a safe environment, free from violence, exploitation, and neglect. The website is designed to help break the cycle of abuse and create spaces where children can thrive.
The website was launched at a photo exhibition organised by UNICEF, which showcased the Maldives through the eyes of children. The development of the site was made possible with the funding from Ms. Asima Abdul Gadir through the Australian Alumni Small Grants. ARC also expressed gratitude to UNICEF and the Maldives Police Service for their continued support in the fight against violence towards children.
ARC states that the aim of the HOPE Campaign is to encourage individuals, families, and communities to actively contribute to creating safe environments for children.
