Azima Shakoor to Contest Male’ Mayoral Seat on PPM/PNC Ticket
Former Attorney General Azima Shakoor has officially declared her candidacy for the upcoming Male’ mayoral by-election in January representing the PPM-PNC coalition.
In a public statement, Azima conveyed her ambition to spearhead initiatives aimed at fostering progress within the Male’ area.
She stressed the importance of installing an honest and capable Maldivian to guide Male’ towards realising its full potential as the country’s capital.
Azima committed to implementing the strategic plan devised by the current mayor and President-elect, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
The by-election for the mayoral position arises from the vacancy resulting from Muizzu’s triumph in the presidential election held in September. With Muizzu set to assume the presidential office on November 17, he is currently on leave from his mayoral duties.
Notably, other contenders have also participated for the mayoral race, including Youth and Sports Minister Ahmed Mahloof and former Police Commissioner Hussain Waheed.
