B. Eydhafushi emerged victorious in the inaugural Gold Cup football tournament, defeating Addu City 2-0 in the final at Galolhu National Stadium last night.
Mohamed Fasir (Faattey), named Player of the Tournament, scored the opener late in the first half, with his younger brother Ali Fasir (Sentey) sealing the win in the 90th minute during a swift counterattack.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu presented the trophy to Eydhafushi in front of over 5,000 fans.
Organised by Ninety Plus, the Gold Cup aimed to rekindle interest in Maldivian football, which has struggled with fan disengagement amid corruption scandals in the Football Association of Maldives (FAM). The tournament, open to all islands and cities, highlighted the demand for broader representation in football.
