Burn Victim in Rasdhoo Fire Moved Out of ICU, to Be Transferred Abroad for Further Treatment

Ali Samin, a 31-year-old man who sustained severe burn injuries in a fire in AA. Rasdhoo last month, has been removed from a ventilator and transferred out of the intensive care unit at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

Samin had suffered burns to 78 percent of his body and was receiving treatment in critical condition. According to a source close to the family, while his condition remains serious, he has now been cleared to travel abroad for further medical treatment.

An employee at the Bank of Maldives branch in Rasdhoo, Samin is expected to be transferred to India for continued care. The family is currently arranging for his transportation, which is scheduled for tomorrow, and has appealed for public assistance due to the anticipated cost and duration of treatment overseas.

Samin’s former spouse, Aishath Rifqa, died on 31 March while undergoing treatment for injuries sustained in the same incident. She had suffered burns on 83 percent of her body.

Reports indicate that the room in which the fire occurred did not sustain structural damage. Other individuals, including the couple’s five-year-old son, were in the house at the time but were unharmed.

Authorities have not yet released official information regarding the cause or circumstances of the incident.
