Commissioner General of Taxation Fathuhulla Steps Down to Contest Parliamentary Elections
The Commissioner General of Taxation, Fathuhulla Jameel, has announced his decision to resign from his current position to stand as a candidate in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Fathuhulla will be contesting for the Thaa atoll Thimarafushi constituency on the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) ticket.
Reportedly, Fathuhulla held discussions with senior officials within the agency last week to convey his intention to resign. Sources suggest that his resignation is imminent.
Fathuhulla boasts a distinguished career within the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), having been appointed as Tax Commissioner by the parliament on October 28, 2019. Prior to assuming the role of Tax Commissioner, he served as the Director General of MIRA.
Commencing his tenure at MIRA in 2003 as a Revenue Officer, Fathuhulla steadily ascended the ranks, holding positions such as Senior Revenue Officer before ultimately being appointed as Director General in 2010.
Following his tenure at MIRA, Fathuhulla assumed the position of Manager of Taxes, Risk, and Compliances at Dhiraagu in 2016, until his recent appointment as Commissioner General of Taxation.
Fathuhulla’s decision to step down from his role marks a significant transition in his career, as he prepares to enter the political arena as a candidate for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
