Couple in Critical Condition After Fire in Rasdhoo Home

A couple sustained severe burns in a fire that broke out in their room on AA. Rasdhoo island on Sunday night. 

Family members have indicated that their chances of survival are minimal. The fire started at 10:30 pm in the couple’s room. The woman is employed at the Atoll Office, while the man works at the Bank of Maldives (BML). A family member reported that the woman suffered burns on 83% of her body, while the man sustained burns on 78% of his body.

The woman has been transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Malé, while the man is receiving treatment in the emergency room. According to medical professionals, the woman’s condition is critical, with a low likelihood of survival. Her health is reportedly deteriorating, with no signs of improvement.

The couple was transported to Malé on the same night, but immediate ICU admission was delayed due to limited capacity.

The fire was contained within the room and did not spread to other areas of the house. Several people were present in the house at the time, but the couple’s five-year-old child was unharmed.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
