The Criminal Court is pressing contempt of court charges against the Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan and senior police officers.
The court’s judges have scheduled a contempt of court hearing against Minister Ihusaan and Chief Supreintendent Ahmed Shakir, Chief Inspector Ahmed Waheed and Sub Inspector Mamdhoo Hassan for allegedly influencing judges, endangering the judges and contempt of court, a spokesperson for the court told the press.
The hearing is scheduled for 1pm on Thursday.
Senior members of Police arranged a press conference earlier this month after two suspects implicated in the smuggling of 119kg of drugs in 2021 were acquitted by the criminal court last month.
Police had collected sufficient evidence to convict the two, Supreintendent Shakir said at the press conference. The criminal court denied an order to let police access the phones of the accused, Shakir said.
At the same press conference, Drug Trafficking Department’s Chief Inspector Ahmed Waheed said the criminal court had released one of the suspects from remand citing delays in the trial. The High Court later overruled the court’s decision to release the suspect and reinstated his remand.
