Customs Officers Under Investigation for Money Laundering and Corruption Since August 2024

Police confirmed today that they have been investigating several employees at the Maldives Customs Service (CMS) since last August concerning allegations of bribery, money laundering, and corruption.
A group of Customs officers have been under investigation since August 19 of last year, according to the Police.
The information officer at Customs declined to provide any comments on the ongoing investigation at this time.
Police did not offer additional information regarding this investigation as well, besides confirming the investigation is ongoing. No further details regarding this case have been shared.
Other local media have reported that 20 Customs employees were involved in this corruption case, and approximately MVR 400 million have been rolled out within this endeavor; however these details have not been confirmed through any official sources.
