Customs Seize Drugs Worth MVR 100K from Foreign Passenger

Maldives Customs Service has confiscated drugs worth an estimated MVR 100,000 from the luggage of an Indian national arriving in the Maldives.
The seizure was made on 13 December 2024 during an inspection at Velana International Airport. The suspect, a 31-year-old male passenger travelling from India, was stopped for further checks, during which customs officers discovered suspicious items in his luggage.
Preliminary testing by Customs confirmed the substance as cannabis. The confiscated drugs, including packaging, weighed 235 grams.
The case, including the suspect and the seized items, has been handed over to the Maldives Police Service for further investigation, according to Customs officials.
