Following the inauguration, Minister Ihsaan emphasised the importance of a people-centred approach to customs services. As Addu City continues to serve as a significant import hub in the country, he urged the provision of swift and efficient cargo clearance services for local residents.
While the primary focus of the new office will be on documentation work across the southern region, Minister Ihsaan indicated future plans to extend certain services through this office that are currently only available at the main office in Malé.
“The office is currently being shaped to handle the majority of documentation work in the region. In the future, we intend to expand its role so it can offer some customs services throughout the Maldives,” said Minister Ihsaan.
Commissioner General of Customs Fathimath Dhiyana also spoke at the event, highlighting that the new office will strengthen and expand the provision of customs services to various ports and harbours across the southern region.
Furthermore, she noted that classrooms have been established within the new facility to support employee training and capacity-building efforts.
The Southern Regional Head Office is equipped with classrooms, a conference hall, and an accommodation block, aiming to support both operational needs and employee development in the region.
