Deputy Mayor Ahmed Naresh Assumes Mayoral Responsibilities During Transition Period

In a recent Male’ City Council meeting chaired by President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, a significant decision was made regarding the city’s leadership. Deputy Mayor Ahmed Naresh has been entrusted with the mayor’s responsibilities to ensure efficient governance during the transition period.
During the meeting, President-elect Dr. Muizzu expressed his commitment to dedicating substantial time to the transition process, emphasising the need to prepare for his upcoming role. He cited the importance of assisting committees in gathering and analysing information to formulate a detailed plan for fulfilling his election promises.
This decision to delegate mayoral responsibilities to Deputy Mayor Naresh was made with the understanding that it is legally permissible and in the best interest of the city’s residents, given the time constraints for day-to-day city council tasks. Dr. Muizzu emphasised the importance of a smooth transition, enabling him to assume his presidential duties on November 17 effectively.
Furthermore, Dr. Muizzu acknowledged that certain pending tasks of the city council would be addressed in the coming days without prior authorisation. He expressed his hope that the elected councillors would perform their duties diligently to serve the interests of the public.
