Destination Future concluded its inaugural Future Summit on August 20, 2024, at Kurumba Maldives. The summit brought together an audience of tourism pioneers, industry leaders, and key stakeholders to explore emerging trends, share best practices, and collaborate on solutions to the tourism industry’s most pressing challenges.
“Thank you to the incredible team and organisers of Destination Future. My sincere gratitude goes to all panellists, participants, and attendees for your insightful contributions,” said Minister of Tourism Ibrahim Faisal during the inauguration ceremony. “Together, we can work towards a more sustainable and innovative tourism industry.” Mr. Faisal stated.
Ibrahim Shiuree, CEO and Managing Director of MMPRC, and Abdulla Ghiyas, Chairman of MMPRC, also graced the event.
A highlight of the summit was the keynote speech delivered by Dr Simad Saeed, Managing Director of CDE Consulting, titled “Brand Maldives, Today and Tomorrow – A Sustainability Perspective.” Dr Saeed stressed the importance of integrating sustainable practices into the tourism industry to maintain the Maldives’ prestigious brand positioning.
The summit also featured insightful panel discussions addressing critical aspects of the tourism industry. These discussions covered important topics such as balancing tourism growth and sustainability, reimagining destination marketing, and diversifying the Maldives’ tourism appeal beyond the traditional “Sun, Sand & Sea” offering.
Additionally, a presentation by Maldives Airports Company Limited provided an overview of the development of the new passenger terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA), which is slated to open in 2025.
Several key sponsors supported the summit, including Loti, Solarelle, Kurumba Maldives, and Ooredoo Maldives.
The next Future Summit is scheduled for June 25, 2025.
