Dialysis services in N. Velidhoo are set to commence next month, according to the Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim who confirmed it in an exclusive interview with MMTV last night.
The minister stated that the government is working to expand dialysis services across all provinces to ease the burden on individuals undergoing treatment for kidney disease. As part of this initiative, dialysis services will be introduced in selected provincial hospitals and health centres.
“The service is being expanded to more island areas where people need dialysis services. We have recently started this service in Ihavandhoo and added dialysis beds in the province. Dialysis services will now be available in Villingili and hopefully, this service will be launched in Velidhoo within the next month,” the minister said.
Many patients require regular dialysis, with some needing the treatment daily. The expansion of dialysis services aims to reduce travel costs for those who currently have to visit other islands for treatment. The initiative has been widely welcomed, with many expressing appreciation for the relief and convenience it will provide.
