The Islamic Minister has revealed plans to assign all Hajj quotas to the Hajj Corporation, citing concerns about certain private companies exceeding agreed-upon prices for the pilgrimage.
During a state media program, Islamic Minister Dr. Shaheem Ali Saeed expressed discontent with some private entities charging pilgrims amounts significantly higher than the agreed prices when granted the opportunity to facilitate Hajj journeys.
Shaheem stated, “They are charging people an additional MVR 50,000 – MVR 70,000,” emphasising the urgency to address this issue.
To address the matter at hand, the Islamic Minister advocates for the allocation of Hajj quotas exclusively to the Hajj Corporation.
As of now, Saudi Arabia allocates 1,000 quotas for the Hajj, and discussions are underway between relevant authorities to potentially increase this quota. Minister Shaheem highlighted ongoing negotiations with Saudi Arabia in an effort to address the concerns surrounding the current allocation.
