Ihusaan stated that this incident was a significant factor behind President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s decision to implement a ban on vaping earlier today. In his post, the Minister shared an image of the shipment, which displayed multiple cardboard boxes reportedly containing bottles designed for vaping devices. It is suspected that the cannabis was concealed within these bottles in an attempt to smuggle it into the country.

Muizzu subsequently announced the vaping ban through a post on X, stating that he has instructed the prohibition of the import of vaping devices and their components, effective from November 15th. Additionally, he has directed all relevant authorities to take necessary measures to ban the use, possession, production, sale, advertisement, and free distribution of vapes starting from December 15th.
