The Election Commission of Maldives (ECM) has formalised their commitment by signing memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with five key state institutions, today.
The institutions involved in this collaborative effort are the Civil Service Commission, the Maldives Police Service, the Department of National Registration, the Local Government Authority, and the Maldives Post.
During the signing ceremony, ECM’s Deputy Chairman, Ismail Habeeb, underscored the pivotal role these institutions will play in facilitating the electoral process. He highlighted specific areas where their assistance is crucial, such as the recruitment of election officials, establishment of focal points in rural areas, and ensuring security throughout the electoral procedures.
The ECM, having announced March as the scheduled month for the parliamentary elections, has taken further steps towards transparency and accountability by publishing updated voter registry changes in the gazette and inviting feedback through a complaint mechanism.
This collaborative endeavour reflects a concerted effort towards ensuring fair, transparent, and orderly parliamentary elections, underlining the commitment of both state institutions and the ECM to uphold democratic principles in the Maldives.
