ECM to Open Candidacy Applications for Parliament Elections on Jan End

The Election Commission of Maldives (ECM) has announced that the opportunity for candidates to apply for the upcoming parliamentary elections will be opened on January 30, 2024.

The parliamentary elections will be held on March 17, 2024.

ECM Vice Chairman Ismail Habeeb said the opportunity to submit forms for the parliamentary elections will be open from January 30, 2024 to February 14, 2024. The nomination of the candidates is scheduled for the 16th of next month and the opportunity to campaign will be open from the 16th of next month to the 16th of March, he said.

Habeeb said the opportunity to submit complaints to the voters list is open and it should be the responsibility of individuals to ensure that the information about the person is correct.

The opportunity to submit complaints to the voters list is open until January 21. The changes will be made public on January 30, he said. Re-registration will be open from 1 to 7 next month and the final voters list will be released on 29th next month, he said.

A total of 284,327 people are eligible to vote in this year’s parliamentary elections to elect members of the 20th Parliament. These include 139,165 women and 145,162 men.
